This $90 million project provided for major renovations to the SFO (San Francisco International Airport) Southwest Airlines boarding concourse to accommodate the long-term replacement project. Our services included an extensive programming and conceptual design process that engaged a wide assortment of user groups and other stakeholders throughout the SFO campus. Severely damaged and distorted by extreme settlement of the foundations into the mud of San Francisco Bay, we also performed a detailed laser survey of the entire structure and infrastructure to establish the baseline documents.
The majority of the work included the relocation and reconfiguration of ticketing counters and their related baggage handling systems, both new and relocated jetways, extensive airfield and apron modifications, and the reconfiguration of related facilities such as hold rooms, customer service counters, and data, information and security systems.
A series of ancillary projects included a new multi-purpose conference center, 3 separate office areas for SFO Design & Construction, Landside Operations, a staff meeting & break room facility, and a new USO facility. Other work included the reconfiguration of infrastructure, including the SFO Secure Network, to accommodate the future demolition and reconstruction work by another team, upgraded toilet facilities, new concessions, and corrections to accessibility shortcomings. Significant work was done at the ramp level, the airport's back-of-house areas, to improve services to aircraft and baggage functions.
