Proposal for Pier 45 Hotel

Utilizing the facades of the existing classic pier sheds as a link to the City's maritime traditions, this development merges the varied activities of a 490-room hotel with a 40,000 square foot festival hall, a 60,000 square foot fisheries research center, and public open spaces and plazas. The design provides maximum public access to the Pier and avoids conflicts between pedestrian and vehicular traffic by depressing auto and bus entrances to levels below grade. Dramatic views of the City's skyline and the surrounding Bay Area are available to pedestrians and hotel guests from the entire perimeter of the Pier, and also from the central wind-protected esplanade between the buildings; all without compromising the privacy of hotel guests.
