This second house plus rental unit for a young couple is located in the very established Upper Haight neighborhood of San Francisco. The public spaces of the 2-story, 3-bedroom owners’ unit are located on the top floor over the bedroom areas. This upper location affords views of the Golden Gate Bridge beyond Golden Gate Park.

LDA used careful modulations in the building’s form to provide opportunities for skylights and small windows to bring light and views into the apartments. Generous decks and patios extend the apartments into the outdoors, creating a large and open feeling for the residents.

The use of modest materials helped the owners hold to a limited budget, while careful consideration to the demands and opportunities of the site resulted in elegant apartments that fit comfortably into an test eclectic area of both modern and traditional homes.
