Lawrence Berkeley Lab Guest House | Berkeley, CA

Design-build services to Lyons Construction for a 57-room hotel from a conceptual design by MacDonald Architects. The goal was to provide convenient and affordable housing for faculty, post-doctoral associates, students, and other visitors to LBNL.LDA and Lyons Construction developed a design that exceeded the program minimum room count by 3 rooms, while remaining below the maximum allowable Guaranteed Maximum Price.

The 3-story Guest House is a hotel located on a steep hillside site fronting a narrow, busy thoroughfare. LDA worked with the design-builder to develop a plan conducive to the off-site preparation of preassembled floor, wall, and roof panels, to ease the congestion and promote a higher level of build quality.

The Guest House is designed to achieve a LEED® Silver rating and employs a bio-swale storm water management system, mechanical system with enhanced refrigerant management, natural sun shading, and automated lighting systems to help achieve this rating.
